Rigorous Analytical Foundation
This MSc programme provides a rigorous grounding in economic theory and quantitative methods, preparing students to conduct sophisticated economic analysis and contribute to evidence-based policymaking. Unlike programmes that emphasize only policy description, this programme equips students with the analytical tools to understand causal mechanisms, evaluate policy impacts, and propose evidence-based solutions to complex economic challenges.
Focus on Applied Policy Research
The programme emphasizes practical policy analysis and research, combining theoretical frameworks with real-world applications. Students engage in case studies and empirical research projects that mirror the challenges faced by policymakers, preparing them to conduct policy-relevant research in government agencies, international organizations, and research institutions.
Global Perspective on Economic Policy
The curriculum integrates global economic policy perspectives while maintaining relevance to the African context. Students explore how economic policies in different countries address similar challenges, enabling them to understand best practices and adapt successful policies to their local contexts.
Research and Evaluation Expertise
The programme places emphasis on research methodology and policy evaluation, equipping graduates with the skills to design research projects, analyze policy impacts using advanced econometric techniques, and contribute original insights to both academic and policy communities.
Interdisciplinary Approach
Economic policy operates at the intersection of economics, governance, and social development. This programme integrates perspectives from related disciplines, helping students understand how economic policies interact with institutional, social, and political factors to produce real-world outcomes.
